Adventist teaching: Yes
Biblical teaching: No
Ellen G. White, who the SDA Church believes was divinely inspired and corrects inaccurate interpretations of scripture, claimed that, she was shown in vision—on multiple occasions—that Jesus is wearing the Levitical priesthood garments in Heaven as He is still dealing with sin, contrary to the book of Hebrews telling us sin was put away at the cross (Hebrews 1:3, 9:26). She even claimed He is wearing the robe with the bells and pomegranates on it, yet the bells and pomegranates were to keep the priest from dying (Exodus 28:35).
This is why Jesus is depicted this way in lots of Adventist art. It is based on Ellen White’s supposed visions.
Jesus is not after the order of Aaron and the Levites, but Melchizedek (Hebrews 6:19-20, 7:1). His priesthood is superior to Aaron and the Levites as Jesus will live forever and His priestly role will never end (Hebrews 7:25). But also, Jesus is a high priest king, not just a priest, because Melchizedek was a priest king (Hebrews 7:1). This is why Jesus’s priesthood is a royal one and all of the believers that are “in Him” are all royal priests that will rule and reign with Him forever (1 Peter 2:9, Revelation 22:5).
The Levitical priesthood garments were exclusively to be worn by the Levitical priests (Exodus 28:1-4). If the priest didn’t wear these garments he would have incurred guilt and died (Exodus 28:43). Jesus has no risk of dying, He isn’t after the order of the Levites, and He cannot incur guilt and die as the sinless Son of God. This is a serious blunder on Ellen White’s part.
Ellen White claimed that “whatever contradicts God’s Word, we can be sure proceeds from Satan”, that her writings never contradict God’s Word, and bear the test of investigation. We’ll let you connect the dots.
