Every generation of Seventh-Day Adventists from their inception have believed they are the final generation before the return of Christ. At one point—in 1849—it was “present truth” to believe that the Time of Trouble would come upon the present generation, the Mark of the Beast would be issued, and Christ would return with that present generation being the 144,000 of Revelation 7. This was primarily influenced by Ellen White’s “first vision,” which was plagiarized from a paper by Joseph Turner.
Today we pay history a visit to see how this is one of the areas that the SDA Church and her theologians have sought to rewrite the trail of errors that mark their rocky past. Present truth strikes again!
