What’s up friends as always welcome to the channel so when I left the SDA church over a decade ago I was given a book from the youth pastor of the church that I began attending that book was Timothy Keller’s reason for God that book had a profound impact on me but specifically ink kindling my passion for apologetics and trying to reach people caught up in Cults it was during this period of study and exploration that I realized in all of the cult groups that I studied specifically the 19th century American Cults they all had their own version of
One same claim so today we’re going to look at a number of these Cults and how similar they are to the SDA church now the picture in many people’s minds when they hear the word cult is often influenced by pop culture for a lot of people they have an image in their mind or some crazed leader that’s convinced people to lock themselves in a secluded area with no contact to the outside world where they do all sorts of bizarre and heinous things something like the people’s Temple Jim Jones cult where we got our phrase don’t drink the Kool-Aid from but these are the extreme cases
According to the Christian Research Institute they posit a second way that the term cult is used particularly within a Christian context where they write that the second way to define a cult is popular in Evangelical Christian circles from this perspective a cult is any group that deviates from the Orthodox teachings of the historic Christian faith being derived from the Bible and confirmed through the ancient ecumenical Creeds this is the definition of a cult that we are referring to and utilizing not just in this video but when we use that term on this platform with this in
Mind the first group that I want us to look at is the Mormons the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the LDS I’ve done a fair amount of evangelizing to them when outd doing Street evangelism maybe you’ve run into some of them as well they’re missionaries on their bikes if so you’ll know that the one thing they love to tell you is about the special message that God supposedly gave to Joseph Smith to take to the rest of the world in a nutshell The Story Goes that young Joseph Smith was trying to find the truth but he couldn’t because there’s
Just so so many denominations out there how could he possibly find the right one he was then visited by an Angel who told him that all the churches of the day were lost and it was his job to restore the true church which is precisely what Mormons believe that Joseph Smith did the evidence most often presented for this restoration being true is that they had a personal inner witness where God confirmed it to them this is because in the book of Moroni which is part of the Book of Mormon it states that behold I would exhort you that when ye shall read
These things that ye would ask God the Eternal Father in the Name of Christ if these things are not true and if you shall ask with a sincere heart with real intent having faith in Christ he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost so for the Mormon they believe that God raised up their movement to restore the truth of Christianity from the days of the Apostles as God’s last day people they have a special message and Revelation that only they were given from God to take to the rest of the world and everyone’s spiritual Wellness depends on
Believing it we hear a similar tune over in the millennial donst camp or as they are more modernly known as the Jehovah’s Witnesses on a page on their website titled who was the founder of the Jehovah’s Witnesses the Watchtower bible track Society writes that while Russell took the lead in the Bible education work at that time and was the first editor of the Watchtower he was not the founder of a new religion the goal of Russell and the other Bible students as the group was then known was to promote the teachings of Jesus Christ and to follow the practices of the first
Century Christian congregation so while their movement was more shaped by people like Joseph Rutherford the figures that made up the Jehovah’s Witnesses also came out of millerism What attracted Charles Russell to millerism was that he agreed with the millerites claim of a great apostasy that began in the 1st Century ad which is why Russell and the other early Jehovah’s Witnesses believed that God raised up their movement to restore the truth of Christianity from the days of the Apostles and as God’s last day people they had a special message that only they had to take to
The rest of the world Mary Baker Eddie the founder of the Christian Science cult claimed that in 1866 she experienced a dramatic recovery from a life-threatening accident after reading one of Jesus’s healings from that moment she wanted to know how she had been healed she read the Bible and prayed for answers it became clear to her that spiritual healing was based on Divine laws of God Spirit she proved that these laws could be applied to anyone to heal every form of human suffering and sin so after coming home one evening after performing a healing it’s claimed that
Mrs Eddie opened her Bible to Jeremiah 30:2 which says thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel saying write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book she took this as a direct and clear message from God to her which is what prompted her to write science and health with key to the scriptures the book that contains the full explanation of the Christian Science faith and its supposed biblical Foundation of spiritual healing the Christian Science organization also states that the information in the book has given people a new spiritual sense
Of the Bible and of their unchangeable relationship to God these new insights all also supposedly result in physical healing and moral regeneration so new insights and Revelation in how to really understand the Bible were supposedly given to Mary Baker Eddie and these new insights are the key to really unlocking the truth of the Bible so if you want to really understand the truth of the Bible and experience miraculous healing Christian Science is here to give you that special message and Revelation that only they were given to take to the rest of the world which brings us to 7th day
Adventism if you’ve been following along with this channel for any extended period of time you’ve probably been able to identify the Adventist version of this claim like all the previous Cults mentioned the Seventh Adventist Church by way of LG white believes that God raised up their movement to restore the truth of Christianity from the days of the Apostles as God’s last day people they have a special message and Revelation that only they were given to take to the rest of the world one such example of this is in manuscript 33 from 1897 where Ellen White wrote the present
Truth the special message given to our world even the third Angel’s message compreh rends a vast field containing Heavenly Treasures no one can be excusable who says I will no longer have anything to do with these Special messages I will preach Christ no one can preach Christ and present the truth as it is in Jesus unless he presents the truth that are to come before the people at the present time when such important developments are taking place the entire fabric of seventh day adventism is interwoven with the belief in present truth you might be wondering but didn’t
She say that this special message was given to our world yes but through her as a conduit messenger this special message was uniquely given to the seventh avist Church by way of their propheus and it’s their Duty they believe to take that message to the rest of the world in fact it’s only when this is done that Jesus will return according to them because when the scriptures say that the gospel will go to the ends of the Earth before Christ returns they don’t mean the gospel that Christians believe they mean the SDA Church’s special present truth end times Three
Angels gospel everyone else is an apostate and is in need of God’s end times people AKA The SDA to bring this special present truth message to them before it’s too late or they’re not going to be prepared for the return of Christ and they’ll get the wrath of God poured out on them which brings us full circle we could continue adding more movements and groups to the list but I think you get the point one of The Telltale Hallmark signs of a cult is their claim to be God’s true body of people who were given a special message that only they have and your spiritual
Well-being rests upon you accepting this message and coming to join them 7th day adventism is no different than any of these other groups in this regard Jesus Christ made it abundantly clear that the gates of hell would never Prevail against the church he has been building it from the beginning and has never failed along the way to keep and preserve his people growing his kingdom by means of taking his gospel to All Nations the same gospel that he gave to the apostles he has not failed in this not even for a season sometime in the future we will discuss the doctrine of
The preservation of the church more fully but question for you have you noticed noed any other common threads amongst cult groups out there let us know in the comments down below and remember if you like content like this and you want to partner with us donate ask us more resources or share your testimony with us the links to do all of that are in the description box down below as always until next time God
